The third annual Summer Slam Youth Baseball Tournament is scheduled this weekend in Evanston.
Tournament games will be played at the Overthrust Park Complex fields on Sixth Street and at the Evanston High School diamond in front of the EHS building on Cheyenne Drive.
Teams from Wyoming, Utah and Idaho are scheduled to compete in three age divisions – Babe Ruth ages 13-15 years plus Cal Ripken ages 11-12 and 10-11.
Local baseball fans are invited to attend the games and all the other tournament festivities.
Several games are scheduled for Thursday evening, with action continuing Friday and Saturday. The round-round schedule Thursday and Friday will determine pairings for Saturday’s single-elimination tournament brackets in both divisions.
Saturday’s single-elimination tournament games open at 9 a.m., with championship games in both divisions scheduled at approximately 2 p.m. Saturday.
Opening ceremonies Friday
Friday’s festivities will kickoff at 8:30 a.m. with opening ceremonies at the Overthrust Park Complex.
There will be a flag ceremony presented by Cub Scout Pack 83. The National Anthem will be performed by Chris and Steve Muller. Evanston Mayor Will Davis will throw out the first pitch.
Jolly Jac’s will present a fireworks show Friday evening after sunset to honor all the tournament participants.
Saturday’s special events include breakfast served from 8 to 10 a.m. (free to all team members, and $3 per person for family members and the general public). Smith’s and Jubilee Foods are donating food for meal.
Saturday’s opening ceremonies will begin at 8:30 a.m. The U.S. flag will be raised by the Evanston Volunteer Fire Department on one of their fire trucks.
Uinta County Sheriff Lou Napoli is scheduled to throw out the first pitch.
Evanston Youth Baseball is very thankful for all the tournament sponsors. Sponsor banners will be displayed on Field One at Overthrust Park Complex during the tournament.
